Psychologists wanting to become a Board-approved supervisor will need to complete Board-approved competency-based supervisor training (full training), consisting of three components that need to be completed in sequence:
Psychologists wishing to maintain their supervisor approval are required to refresh their training every five years by completing at least one Board-approved master class. A master class is a competency-based training workshop requiring at least six hours of direct training. Master classes can focus on specific topics relevant to supervision, or to supervision in particular areas of practice.
Psychologists who have had a break from supervision or from practice more generally, or feel they need to refresh their knowledge and skills across the supervisor competencies, are encouraged to complete full training (at least Part 2) instead of a master class.
For more information on these requirements, please review:
There are 16 training providers approved to deliver supervisor training until 31 December 2023. Their contact details are listed in the table below.
You can find information on the curriculum of supervisor training programs and on the location and scheduling of full training Part 2 and master class workshops by contacting Board-approved supervisor training providers directly. Providers typically list their upcoming workshops on their websites, which can be accessed through the links below. You can also make phone enquiries about upcoming workshops directly with the providers.
If a Part 2 or master class workshop is not scheduled near you, the Board recommends you seek out other psychologists in your area who are interested in the training and then contact providers to ask if they can organise a workshop for your group.

The training providers listed below hold Below-approval to deliver supervisor training until 31 December 2018. Any training delivered after this date is not valid for applying to become a Board-approved supervisor or for applying to maintain Board-approved supervisor status (the providers are permitted to grade assessments until 1 February 2019).
The Board periodically invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced organisations, groups and individuals to deliver Board-approved supervisor training programs across Australia.
In 2018, the Board invited applications to deliver supervisor training from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2023. The application period is now closed and 16 training providers were granted approval by the Board for the second five-year approval cycle.
If you would like to be notified of future opportunities to apply to become a Board-approved supervisor training provider, send your contact details to PsyBA.firstname.lastname@example.org. Mid-cycle applications may be sought if there is a need for further supervisor training programs.
